Final profile for the 2009 Season, where
did this summer go? To close out the season, I interviewed a new face to the SBS
division. He may be new but, he's a mover and a shaker in the small blocks and -
contributes to the future of the class.
I of course had to get in line and wait my turn. The line to talk to Steve Abt was
five deep when I strolled over after the races for an interview. He was signing everything
from scrap paper to ball caps, to a program. The young boy with the program was pretty
excited because he had asked feature winner Andrew Schartner for an autograph but
didn't have any paper. Being the class act that Andrew is, he went into his hauler,
brought out his program, autographed it and gave it to the excited fan. Who says
the track isn't what it used to be? You just have to look a little harder to find
it. That's just the thing that drivers do. It was great to see the excitement in
that boy's face. Once finished with his fans, Steve was nice enough to let me steal
a little time from him for an interview.By Robin Phillips
Another great accomplishment in Andrews Racing career. He broke the track record
for fast time in the Modlite. All conditions were good and he ended up finishing
5th in the feature.

Andrew Schartner Scores Two Top Fours On Two Different Surfaces This Weekend Weedsport, N.Y. –Andrew Schartner just keeps on hanging around the top five. Whether it's finishing second on the dirt in his mod-lite car Friday night at Brewerton Speedway, or scoring a fourth place finish in a wild small block supermodified on pavement at Oswego Speedway on Saturday, Andrew is always exciting to watch. Driving the Crow Motorsports No. 18 on Saturday, Andrew was defending his Mr. Small Block Supermodified crown he won last year in this same event. This year, he said the car was there but the laps weren't quite enough. "We came from the back and won the heat easily enough," the 21-year old began. "But there were a lot of drivers arguing over space and we got tagged a bunch of times coming to the front. The guys in front of me were blasting each other and taking up both grooves. I got to fourth with five to go and made a run at third, but got stuck behind my teammate Kreig Heroth. It was an awesome race to watch but we just got trapped. Kreig getting third and me fourth gave Crow Motorsports two top fives tonight so that was pretty neat." Friday night, Andrew strapped into his Karl Schartner-built No. 9 mod-lite car at the 3/8-mile D-shaped oval they call Brewerton Speedway, and nearly pulled off a win. "We started 11th and just had a perfect car. I got to third and had a fierce battle with Dougie (Williams). I was able to pass him but it took a ton of laps. I got (Joe) Garafolo for second with two to go but just didn't have time to deal with (Jeff) Isabell for the win. It was a fun race!"
